La Boutique Solidaire: Where Circular Thinking Meets Community Spirit

In a world shaped by fast consumption, where the rhythm is often take, use, discard, La Boutique Solidaire introduces another pace. One grounded in care, purpose, and shared responsibility.

Since its debut in 2023, the initiative has become more than a donation drive. It has grown into a shared platform where circular economy, inclusion and community engagement take shape, reflecting the values of Now for Tomorrow and the broader ambitions of the Bel Ombre territory, in the south of Mauritius.

Pop-store, a monthly rendez-vous

ONCE A POP-UP, NOW A MONTHLY RENDEZ-VOUS

Launched by Heritage Resorts & Golf, the Boutique Solidaire began with a simple call to action: invite team members to give a second life to items they no longer used. Items in good condition such as clothing, accessories, books, furniture, found new meaning in someone else’s hands. Support followed from Heritage Villas Valriche’s owners, unclaimed lost-and-found inventories were added, and most importantly, the doors opened wider to the Bel Ombre community.

Over seven editions, La Boutique Solidaire has transformed La Place du Moulin into a vibrant meeting ground for re-loved goods. In recent editions, the event expanded thanks to a collaborative effort between multiple local stakeholders under the Bel Ombre territorial brand, leading to the creation of a “Marché Artisanal” (craft market) that now complements the Boutique. Together, they form a hybrid event that celebrates not just reuse, but local creativity and entrepreneurship.

A LOCALLY IMPACTFUL APPROACH

As of May 2025, the initiative has raised Rs 217,572, partly redistributed to local associations such as Association Dibout Ensam, which works in favour of social inclusion and solidarity efforts in the south of Mauritius. Beyond its economic impact, the Boutique fosters moments of exchange that reaffirm the human value behind every object shared.

Community engagement continues to grow. The most recent edition timed around Mother’s Day and held on a Saturday welcomed more families, residents and visitors, offering a festive yet grounded atmosphere with live music and conversations. From the beginning, the aim has never been volume. It has been about consistency, trust, and giving things - and people - a second chance.

Locally Impact Approach

WHEN EVERY ITEM SOLD ON, A STORY TOLD

Each item sold, a story tell

The enthusiasm of donors, return visitors and volunteers speaks volumes. What might once have been overlooked is now rediscovered, appreciated, and valued again. La Boutique Solidaire also contributes to inclusive development by uplifting local artisans through the Marché Artisanal. By bridging resource recovery with craftsmanship, the initiative adds depth to its environmental commitment while nurturing creative livelihoods and local identity. "One of the simplest ways to start is by mapping existing resources: clothing, furniture, storage items, and identifying who might benefit," shares Chloé Joseph, Sustainability Officer at Heritage Resorts & Golf. "Most companies already have the means; they just need a small platform and the right partners to create momentum. If there’s one thing we’ve learnt, it’s that small steps, repeated and shared, can slowly transform the way we operate."

Next event: 25 July at La Place du Moulin
